Leading learning

There are two closely related aspects to leading learning in a school, both with a focus on improving effective student learning. They are 'improving teaching' and 'improving curriculum'. Although both are important and must be addressed, the aspect that has the most effect on student learning is improving teaching. The main role of leaders, then, is to establish and actively participate in a strong adult learning culture.

The central question for everyone to consider about practices and resources is, "To what extent do they help or hinder student learning?" and, to effectively address that question, there must be a deep collective understanding of how students best learn and how teachers best improve the impact of their practice.
